ISSB General Questions Guide

How many candidates are selected out of a group / batch? No definite number or limit is laid down about the selection of candidates out of a group/batch. If all the candidates in a group / batch come up to the required standards, all will be selected, Likewise, if no-one comes up to our standards none may be selected from a particular batch. Therefore have faith in your abilities and put in your best in each test you undertake.
What happens if I become sick or get injured?
Free medical facilities are provided to candidates at ISSB. We try our best to ensure that you do not fall sick or get injured during your stay/tests.
  • In case of severe injury or illness you will be taken to Combined Military Hospital for the treatment. You may also get admitted depending upon severity of the injury or illness.
  • If you have missed complete tests due to illness or injury, you will be considered as “Withdrawn” and your chance for ISSB tests will not be counted.
  • If you have appeared in the ISSB tests but have missed a portion of GTO’s tests or interview then it is likely that you are considered as “Not Fully Boarded”. In this case also, your chance for ISSB will not be counted. The condition of “not to appear at ISSB within 120 days” will not apply to you if you are declared ‘Not Fully Boarded’. Therefore you can appear as soon as you are well and fit.
Does prior coaching / training has any effect during ISSB tests? We discourage candidates to undergo coaching for the reasons that it hinders the spontaneity of an individual. Candidates who undergo coaching present a stereotype behavior that hides his/her originality. Besides, coached candidate are prone to becoming single tracked.
Is there any difference in the assessment system for the three services? No. The assessment system for all three services is the same. However in order to suit the requirement of services, for few courses, the candidates are tested in two dimensions i.e. Psychologist Tests and Interview only. But there are no variations in the technique of these tests.
Can I appear for ISSB tests for two services in the same half of the year? Not Exactly. You can appear in ISSB for any course if following is complied with:-
  • You can not appear in ISSB within 120 days of your last appearance.
  • You have not exhausted your two chances for appearance at the ISSB.
Are there any concessions for the Female Candidates? There is no difference in selection standard, but there are some variations in the tests and field events. Female candidates are normally tested in two dimensions plus (psychologist tests, interview and some of the GTO Tasks) except for those applying for GD (P) or CAE who are tested in all tests of three dimensions i.e. Interview, GTO Tasks and Psychologist Tests. Please remember that such arrangements may change when service requirements demand so.
If I am recommended from ISSB, does it mean that I will definitely be selected and be instructed to join the academy?Generally true but not always correct. ISSB only recommends the candidates for various courses but final merit list is prepared by the concerned services only if number of recommended candidates is more than the vacancies for that particular course. In most of the cases a candidate recommended by the ISSB makes his/her way to the academy but it may not always happen. Your name may not appear in the final merit list and thus you may not be called for the training.
What is the period of validity of Recommendation of ISSB for a particular course? If you were recommended for a particular course but not included in the final merit list and you want to re-appear in the ISSB for the same or any other course, then you can only appear after one year from the date of your previous recommendation of ISSB; as it is most likely that your name is already included in the waiting list for the next serial / batch of that course.
I can not come for the tests, can my test dates be delayed? It is very much possible that the test dates mentioned in your call letter concide with your other examinations of some other institutions. We always tell our candidates to immediately inform us of such possibilities and write to us by post for an adjustment which in most of the cases is made. Please inform us immediately if your test dates concide with some other examination that you are taking. You are required to send us an application by post and also send us copy of your examination schedule as a proof. Please remember that ISSB is not bound to call you again. Re-call is only issued when it is clearly established that your reason for not appearing was based on solid grounds.
I did not receive my call letter but I have seen my call on the website, what should I do?You call letter is issued some 20 days in advance to the actual date of your tests. It is a rare possiblity that you may not receive your call letter at all. If you have seen your name in our online callup database then you should take a print out of the same page which shows your name and report for the ISSB. The concerned ISSB staff has been instructed to accept the same as a call and let you in. Please remember that you must be in possession of other educational documents required from you to be eligible for the tests.

Using SMS with Responsibility

SMS is probably the most widely used communication channel in Pakistan. Weexchanged 176 billion text messages in 2010 (last reported stats), which would have doubled in number by 2012.
With such massive usage, there comes a responsibility attached to this medium which every citizen should respect and adopt with essence. If not used properly, this SMS medium can leave disastrous impact on the society to easily cripple down the ecosystem of our country.
Hasb-e-Haal (A show on Dunya TV) recently discussed this matter, and we thought of sharing the video with you to understand the responsibility attached with using SMS. We are presenting the video as it is for our readers:

Zong has increased operational fee charges from 1.5 percent to 2 percent plus tax, effective from April 10th, 2012.
A notice appearing on Zong’s website read:
“Dear Customers in order to improve our services from April 10th, Operational fee on all recharges is being increased from 1.5 percent to 2 percent, (Govt taxes apply).”
It merits mentioning here that operational fee will be deducted in addition to 5 percent service charges, 10 percent withholding tax, and 19.5 percent GST imposed by cellular operators and the government.
Earlier, Telenor, Ufone and Mobilink had increased such charges to level at 2 percent.
This is the second time when cellular operators one after another increased their charges with different names. In June 2011, almost all of them had slapped 1.1 percent to 1.5 percent additional charges on customers with different names.

Tsunami warning issued to 28 countries including Pakistan

BANDA ACEH: A massive earthquake off Indonesia's western coast triggered a tsunami watch for countries across the Indian Ocean on Wednesday, clogging streets with traffic as residents fled to high ground in cars and on the backs of motorcycles.
Two hours after the quake hit, however, there was no sign of the feared wave. Damage also appeared to be minimal.
The U.S. Geological Survey said the 8.6-magnitude quake was centered 20 miles (33 kilometers) beneath the ocean floor around 269 miles (434 kilometers) from Aceh province.
"It wasn't the strongest quake I've felt," said 22-year-old Tuti Rahmi, while trying to reach her brother by phone from Banda Aceh, people around her crying and screaming as they poured from their homes.
"But it seemed to last forever," she said, adding the ground shook for nearly four minutes.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii said a tsunami watch was in effect for Indonesia, India, Sri Lanka, Australia, Myanmar, Thailand, the Maldives and other Indian Ocean islands, Malaysia, Pakistan, Somalia, Oman, Iran, Bangladesh, Kenya, South Africa and Singapore.
But hours later, the threat appeared to have passed.
Roger Musson, seismologist at the British geological survey who has studied Sumatra's fault lines, says the temblor was a strike-slip quake, not a thrust quake, which causes the sea bed to flip up.
"When I first saw this was an 8.7 near Sumatra, I was fearing the worst," he said, noting one of the initial reported magnitudes for the quake. "But as soon as I discovered what type of earthquake it was, then I felt a lot better."
The tremor was felt in Malaysia, where it caused high-rise buildings to shake for about a minute, and in Singapore, Thailand, Bangladesh and India.
There was chaos in the streets of Aceh, where memories of a 2004 tsunami that killed 170,000 people in the province alone, are still raw.
Patients poured out of hospitals, some with drips still attached to their arms. In some places, electricity was briefly cut.
Hours after the temblor, people were still standing outside their homes and offices, afraid to go back inside.
There were several strong aftershocks.
"I was in the shower on the fifth floor of my hotel," Timbang Pangaribuan told El Shinta radio from the city of Medan. "We all ran out. ... We're all standing outside now."
He said one guest was injured when he jumped from the window of his room.
Thailand's National Disaster Warning Center issued an evacuation order to residents in six provinces along the country's west coast, including the popular tourist destinations of Phuket, Krabi and Phang-Nga.
India's Tsunami Warning Center issued a warning for parts of the eastern Andaman and Nicobar islands. In Tamil Nadu in southern India, police cordoned off the beach and used loudspeakers to warn people to leave the area.
Satheesh Shenoi, director of the Indian National Center for Ocean information Services, said the chance of a tsunami was diminishing.
"There are no indications of tsunami wave; the instruments are not showing any sea level change," he said.
The quake was felt in Dhaka, Bangladesh, where many people in the city's commercial Motijheel district left their offices and homes in panic and ran into the streets. No damage or causalities were reported.
In Male, the capital of the Maldives, buildings were evacuated.
Indonesia straddles a series of fault lines that makes the vast island nation prone to volcanic and seismic activity.
A giant 9.1-magnitude quake off the country on Dec. 26, 2004, triggered a tsunami in the Indian Ocean that killed 230,000 people, most of them in Aceh. (AP)

8,9 Earthquake in Sumatra Indonesia 11 April 2012 Tsunami alert in 29 countries!!!

 CNN Report 】
Tsunami warning : Please don't go around beach side!
Because Indonesia Acheh, Sumatra 8.9 Strong Earthquake. The next couple of hours, Tsunami might be happen.

Remind your friends - Do not go around Seaside.

JAKARTA / KARACHI: An 8.7 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Indonesia on Wednesday, sending residents around the region dashing out of their homes and offices in fear.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said a tsunami watch was in effect for the entire Indian Ocean and individual countries, including Thailand, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India, issued tsunami warnings.
tsunami watch is also in effect for India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Indonesia, Malaysia, South Africa and other countries.
A tsunami watch has been issued for countries across the Indian Ocean, including Pakistan after a massive earthquake hit waters off Indonesia, a Met department official told The Express Tribune, adding that there was no tsunami threat to Pakistan’s coastline.
People near the coast in six Thai provinces were ordered to higher ground.
Indonesia’s president said there were no reports of casualties or damage from the earthquake, with no threat from a tsunami although an alert for a giant wave remained in place.
“There is no tsunami threat although we are on alert,” said President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono at a joint news conference with visting British Prime Minister David Cameron, who said Britain was standing ready to help if needed.
“The situation in Aceh is under control, there’s a little bit of panic but people can go to higher ground,” Yudhoyono said, adding that he had ordered a disaster relief team to fly to Aceh.
The quake struck 308 miles (500 km) southwest of the city of Banda Aceh, on the northern tip of Indonesia’s Sumatra Island, at a depth of 20.5 miles (33 km), the U.S. Geological survey said.
Indonesia’s disaster management agency said power was down in Aceh province and people were gathering on high ground as sirens warned of the danger.
“The electricity is down, there are traffic jams to access higher ground. Sirens and Koran recitals from mosques are everywhere,” said Sutopo, spokesman for the agency.
The quake was felt as far away as the Thai capital, Bangkok, and in southern India, residents said.
Hundreds of office workers in the Indian city of Bangalore left their buildings while the Indian port of Chennai closed down because of the danger of a tsunami, the port said.
The quake was in roughly in the same area as a Dec. 26, 2004, quake of 9.1 magnitude, which sent huge tsunami waves crashing into Sumatra, where 170,000 people were killed, and across the Indian Ocean.
In all, the 2004 tsunami killed about 230,000 people in 13 Indian Ocean countries, including Thailand, Sri Lanka and India.
The 2004 quake was at a depth of 18 miles (30 km) along a fault line running under the Indian Ocean, off western Indonesia and up into the Bay of Bengal.
One expert told the BBC the Wednesday quake as a “strike-slip” fault, meaning a more horizontal shift of the ground under the sea as opposed to a sudden vertical shift, and less risk of a large displacement of water triggering a tsunami.
The quake was also felt in Sri Lanka, where office workers in the capital, Colombo, fled their offices, and the southern Thai holiday island of Phuket, both of which were hit hard by the 2004 tsunami.
In Bangladesh, where two tremors were felt, authorities said there appeared to be no threat of a tsunami. Australia also said there was no threat of a tsunami there.
